Certification Standards for Emergency Department in Hospitals

Emergency Certification:The standards provide framework for quality care and patient safety to patients coming to the Emergency department and also stimulates continuous quality improvement. The Emergency Accreditation standards will thereby cater to build a culture of safety at all levels. The standards aim at setting expectations for the provision of providing equitable, safe and high-quality emergency care in the country thereby leading to good clinical outcomes.

Patient Centered Standards
a) Access, Assessment and Information (AAI)
b) Patient Care and Rights (PCR)
c) Management of Medication (MOM)
d) Hospital Infection Control (HIC)

Organization Centered Standards
a) Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)
b) Responsibility of Management (ROM)
c) Facility Management and Safety (FMS)
d) Human Resource Management (HRM)

Who can apply?
Hospitals having minimum of 25 operational beds, in addition to emergency beds. Number of beds in the emergency department should be as per following criteria:

Total Number of Hospital Beds Minimum Beds required in the Emergency Department
Up to 50 Beds 02 Beds
51-100 Beds 04 Beds
101-200 Beds 06 Beds
201-350 Beds 08 Beds
More than 350 Beds 10 beds

NABH conducts various training and awareness programmes round the year regularly. It is advisable that the aspirants of healthcare organizations attend Training for better understanding of the standards.
